Research Group of Thomas Lippert

Thomas Lippert

The “Modular Supercomputing and Quantum Computing” group focuses on fundamental research and development in the area of the new architecture and programming paradigm for modular supercomputing. This includes the communication networks for optimized interaction and scheduling of disaggregated resources such as CPU and GPU clusters, but also the integration of future non-von-Neumann architectures, especially quantum computers, as modular compute resources for performing hybrid quantum-HPC-calculations, as well as design concepts for modular datacenters.

The research group supports the Centre for Scientific Computing (CSC) at the Goethe-University Frankfurt in its further development into a national high-performance computing centre. The research here follows three key principles: (1) energy efficiency, here the university has an internationally visible pioneering role, (2) maximum scalability through modularity, and (3) application of artificial intelligence based on high performance computing. The research is carried out in close cooperation with the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) and the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS).
