Prof. Dr. Rainer Spurzem

Focus: Astrophysics


Prof. D. Rainer Spurzem studied physics and astrophysics at the University of Göttingen and received his doctorate there in 1988 on the topic "Models of anisotropic stellar systems with and without massive central object". He then went to the University of Würzburg as a postdoc and completed his exam in 1990 as a mathematics and physics teacher in Göttingen. As a postdoc and guest researcher, his journey took him from Edinburgh via Japan to the USA and back to Heidelberg, where he completed his habilitation in 1997. As a professor in various positions he worked in Tübingen, Heidelberg and China intermittently through various projects in Santa Barbara. Since 2017 he is also Research Fellow at FIAS.
